Miriam Moss (94) is a sociology researcher, writer, quilter, photographer, bird watcher and seashell collector. She was born and lived for most of her life in Philly suburbs, but in later years spent weekends in a rural off the grid cabin in New Jersey. In 2020 she published a collection of her diary entries at the cabin into a book, The Pine Barrens.

I made this piece on the cusp of spring, as the oxalis began to creep into every nook and cranny and my garden began to bloom. My grandmother wrote and used photography to examine her surroundings- I’m compelled to go a little further, experimenting with the materials themselves through natural dyeing and printmaking of the plants available to me.
